Appendix A: Correlations to State Standards

Effective implementation of state standards for geometry and measurement is a critical goal of IMAGES. This section presents aspects of the various state academic standards for mathematics that pertain to the five IMAGES content strands for students in grades K-3 and 4-5:1 visualization and spatial reasoning; two- and three-dimensional geometry; coordinate geometry; transformational geometry; measurement. This appendix includes only elements of the state standards that apply to geometry and measurement.

The IMAGES content for students may be broader than that presented in various state standards and goes beyond what each state's programs assess. Just as teachers must know content beyond that which they are teaching, students need to learn more than what will appear on any given test.
